LAWRENCE WEINER / NOW ON VIEW AT TWENTIETH IN CONJUNCTION WITH LA ART SHOW

In conjunction with LA Art Show, HENZEL STUDIO presents the display of Lawrence Weiner's limited edition rug; From Before and After, 2018, at Twentieth, Los Angeles.
Legendary conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner, one of the central figures in the formation of conceptual art, has over the past five decades investigated forms of display and distribution that challenge traditional assumptions about the nature of the art object. His primary medium has been wall sculptures that consist of painted non descript lettering, with the elements described in his texts serving as material. His rug for Henzel Studio features the text “FROM BEFORE AND AFTER”, juxtaposed with graphic elements. The rug is hand knotted using 100% silk.
Lawrence Weiner has had solo exhibitions worldwide at major institutions such as Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, UCCA Beijing, Castello di Rivoli in Torino, K21 Standehaus in Düsseldorf, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Dia:Chelsea New York, MOCA Los Angeles, Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Museo Tamayo, Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) and MCA Chicago.
Henzel Studio has developed art rugs with over thirty contemporary artists including Richard Prince, Helmut Lang, Jack Pierson, Nan Goldin, Scott Campbell, Richard Phillips, Marilyn Minter, Mickalene Thomas and Anselm Reyle. Via 'Henzel Studio Heritage' extensive collections have also been developed in collaboration with artist foundations and estates, that to date include The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Tom of Finland Foundation.
Curated by Joakim Andreasson and designed in collaboration with Calle Henzel.
