Tropical surrealism

The British-born American artist Ashley Bickerton (1959–2022) completed his BFA at the California Institute of the Arts in Southern California and the Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art in the1980's. In New York he established himself, alongside Jeff Koons and Peter Halley, as a member of the so-called Neo-Geo movement, a conceptual art movement that revived aspects of Minimalism, Op Art and Pop Art within a new Post-modern context to criticize consumerism, commercialism, and mechanization. Bickerton’s work is represented in numerous international public collections. His work for Henzel Studio was based on his established celebrated themes and iconography of tropical surrealism, green-headed characters, and assemblages.
